ENLIGHTENING MISSION
We have much to gain from our veteran elders – the past architects of our present world. Their vast knowledge and hands-on experience can be of immense value to the younger generation. The Eminent is a national-level, non-profit, charitable and non-governmental organisation that is fully focused on tapping the great potential possessed by our veterans. Founded under the auspices of its President, Dr. AK Agarwal, Chairman, River Engineering Pvt Ltd, the organisation aims to:
- Bestow recognition on senior citizens, who have contributed positively to society and added value to the lives of people around them.
- Provide the younger members the hard-earned experience, knowledge and skills of elder veterans.
- Offer a common platform for the senior citizens and the youth for free exchange of ideas.
- Make the youth emulate the examples set by elders who have successfully overcome certain insurmountable challenges during their lifetime.
ENLIGHTENING OBJECTIVES
- To obtain the valued contribution of the senior citizens welfare of the society and in nation building.
- To bring into limelight those senior citizens who have achieved recognition in their fields of expertise.
- To motivate the younger generation to enhance their knowledge from the veteran’s hindsight for getting an edge in the competitive global environment.
- To strengthen the bonds between the young and the old by bridging the generation gap through mutual interaction.
ENLIGHTENING SELECTION
Evaluating the contribution of senior citizens requires extensive profiling. In addition to the formal education of the candidates, certain other factors, like hard work, dedication, commitment to the cause, ingenuity and innovation for the betterment of the society are also taken into account.
Selection criteria based on elders’ achievements:
- Excellence in a chosen field, be it social, technical, managerial, educational, environmental, psychological, research-based, health- oriented or even spiritual.
- Innovations, evolution of unique formulas for managing things, techniques for the betterment of life and successful implementation of original ideas.
- Exceptional work in national interest, like that of freedom fighters, who may not have gained recognition.
- Valuable contribution towards the welfare of society.
- Insights from life’s experiences for others to emulate.
- Sufferers due to unique set of circumstances, who can enlighten through their failure.
ENLIGHTENING STRATEGY
The organisation’s four-pronged strategy for acquiring the wisdom of the senior citizens involves:
- Gathering veterans’ experiences: Treating the veterans as the noblest sons of the land and acquiring their experiences and knowledge that has been an inspiration for others.
- Analysing the experiences: Converting the experiences and knowledge of the elders into teachings by proper analysis, interpretation and synthesis of the collected data
- Delivering the teachings: Packaging the veterans’ teachings for delivering to the youth in the form of published materials, feature films and also through forums and talks.
- Feedback mechanism: An efficient mechanism for obtaining regular feedbacks about the efficacy of these teachings.
ENLIGHTENING INITIATIVES
Inspire Magazine
Inspire is an in-house, non-commercial quarterly magazine meant exclusively for the members and those associated with The Eminent and also for those who desire to serve the senior citizens. The magazine addresses key issues affecting senior citizens, such as, legal, social, health and security. The magazine also features articles of eminent writers and professionals. It also includes exclusive interviews of veteran elders for showcasing their key teachings.

VISTREE CAMPAIGN
This campaign is a unique initiative to bring knowledge at the doorsteps of elder veterans. A collaborative effort between the prosperous members of the society, keen on serving the senior citizens, and The Eminent is being initiated, under which the personal libraries of these philanthropists would be thrown open for the benefit of the elders.
